What
Does "The Matrix" Have To Do With Affiliate Products?

Four weeks ago,
a movie called "The Matrix" hit the silver screen here
in the U.S. It's a fantastic movie.
Since its release,
I've seen it four times. I'm ready to see it again.
After seeing
the movie for the first time, I became a zealot. I tried to get
everybody to see it. Those who had already seen it, I encouraged
to see it again.
I truly believed
"The Matrix" offered unsurpassed entertainment value.
So, like any product that I believe in, I promoted it.
Heavily.
I gave colorful
impromptu reviews of the movie. I peppered the reviews with every
strong hint of irresistible special effects, storytelling and directing
brilliance.
I whimsically
offered a full money-back guarantee. I told close friends, "See
'The Matrix.' If you hate it, I'll give you your seven bucks back.
If you love it, tell others."
In short, I
promised benefits that people would be compelled to seek. And I
made it risk-free. I stood behind the product.
I've lost count
of the number of people in my community who acted on my recommendation
to see "The Matrix."
With the exception
of one person, those who saw the movie were awestruck. They loved
it. They derived the value I promised.
As for the one
person who was unsatisfied, this lady wasn't really in my target
market. My enthusiasm got the better of me and I forgot that she
was a loyal patron of love stories and little else.
Here's my point...
I believe in
the product. I'm convinced that nearly anyone who sees "The
Matrix" will enjoy it. If I were earning a commission for every
person who bought a ticket based upon my reviews and recommendation,
you could consider this the studio's affiliate program.
I send people
to the box office. And I make money when they buy tickets.
Affiliate products
aren't much different. The only question is whether you actually
believe in what you're hawking.
To Sum Up...
Don't sell crappy
products.
Respect your
community. Offer them value.
Try it before
you sell it.
Learn from Paul's
example.
See "The
Matrix."
If you believe that an affiliate product offers value to your particular
community, sell it to them. Recommend it. Get behind it.
Don't simply
promote it. That would be a tragic waste of bandwidth.
