Goto - Resources and advice

In last weeks newsletter I mentioned that Goto has signed a deal with Microsoft
to become the default search engine in the Internet Explorer web browser.

Goto has already made it into the top ten search engine list, but this deal should make
it rise up the ranks even quicker.

As you probably know, Goto works differently to most search engines. It's a pay-for-placement
model. When people type in a keyword the web sites that show up first are the one's who've bid
highest for that ranking.

Like me, you've probably resisted spending money with them. But now, I think, you've got to
seriously consider outlaying some cash. Think of it as spending money on targeted advertising.

I went through the sign-up process last Sunday, deciding to spend a low $50 until I could see the
results coming in. And I'm pleased to say that four days later I've already had a few hits from them.
I'm now compiling a long list of keywords to bid on, and I'm getting my Visa card ready for some
serious action.

Here are some articles and resources on achieving success with Goto:

Goto's Suggested Search Terms

Not sure what search terms to bid on?
Enter a term related to your site and Goto will show you:
  • Related searches that include your term
  • How many times that term was searched on last month

This is a very useful tool. After all there's no point in pining your traffic hopes
on a keyword or phrase that people hardly ever search for.

The Number 1 Tip

One of the big keys to success with Goto is to have a huge number of keywords - people
putting bids in for hundreds, even a 1000 or more, is common. A large list allows you to
bid as low as a cent on 90% of your keywords. Even if 10% of them get a single click
each day, you're generating 100 daily visitors.

But coming up with 1000 relevant keywords on your own is next to impossible. Fortunately
I've found a free tool to do it for you. Not only does it generate keywords, it also tells you
how much you need to bid on them to achieve your desired ranking. You'll find this excellent

free tool at www.Jimtools.com, one of my favorite webmaster sites.
Once there click on the
keywords icon.
