This is a long ezine because
my fingers got stuck to the keyboard
and wouldn't let me stop writing until I'd poured everything out
of my head.
But seeing it's Sunday you've probably got plenty of reading time.
Let's hope so :)
Here's what's inside:
Info on a delightful audio interview with Neil Shearing....and a
special deal I've got for you.
Some
Google Adword tips.
Details of a new, highly recommended, book on getting
the top slot in Google (and other search engines).
How I'm revamping my ozemedia.com site for better search
engine positioning.
Webmaster Dos and Don'ts direct from Google....
Hope you find something useful and interesting
here....

PS. I've heard that the $0 trial memberships to
Corey
Rudl's
"Secrets To Their Success" interview series are finishing
on the 15th November. I think it's a fantastic site and I've been
a paying member since the beginning, and can't see myself dropping
out. The interviews are too helpful to miss. You get two very detailed
studies a month, and they're full of tips, ideas, and tactics you
should be implementing on your own sites.
New this month is an intriguing look behind the
scenes at the site of a man who has made $200,000 profit this year
selling truck-bed covers, and an 8 month old binocular site which
has already sold over $104,000 of products.
Give it a try.
1. Ok, on with the show. Let's
start with the Neil Shearing interview...
a few months ago, at his English seaside home,
I had afternoon tea with Neil and his family, and taped him talking
about how he uses a combination of his own products and affiliate
programs to bring in a huge income. (the "huge income"
bit is in my words, not Neil's).
But I'm sure Neil would admit he does a lot more
than get by.
Anyway, not being a wizard at audio editing, I
still haven't done anything with the tape, and now it's probably
too late because Louis Allport has just released a combo ebook /
audio of a 4 hour interview with Neil.
It's called Super
Affiliate Secrets Exposed. And that's just what it does.
Louis, with his
excellent interviewing technique, very successfully gets Neil
to spill his guts on exactly how you can earn a big affiliate
income.
(not sure if "spill his guts"
is just a bit of Australian slang so if it is....sorry)
Anyway, the recording is in-depth, thoughtful,
packed with practical advice, and it puts my tiny effort (at
interviewing Neil) to shame. |
 |
Because it's such a long audio I was worried that
my ailing phone line wouldn't be able to cope with the download,
but cleverly it's split into "chapters" which correspond
with the full transcripts in the ebook...so if you're still not
on broadband, don't worry.
To listen to these two clever, but down to earth,
Englishmen talking about the best ways to make big affiliate profits
visit this link
The audio and ebook combo is $19.95 which I figure
is a small price to pay. I've seen tapes of this kind of quality
content selling for hundreds of dollars.
But because I've invested in the resale rights
for this product I've decided to sweeten the deal even more. If
you buy the book and
audio from my link you'll also receive a free copy of Ezine
Experiment which I wrote about the other week.
Of course, if you already own Ezine
Experiment I'll replace the bonus with another interesting product
I have the rights to. Just let me know at phil@ozemedia dot com.
One thing I haven't told you yet. The
book and audio come with full resale rights, so you can resell
it for $19.95 from the included web site.

2.Google Adwords Tip...
When you use Google Adwords to drive traffic
to your site you need to make sure you're VERY specific with your
keywords. If you don't you'll be paying for visitor who might not
be interested in your site and what you're selling.
So you'll be wasting your money.
You should also negative-match your keywords,
so that your ad won't show if the user's search includes that word.
You can find out how to do it on this Google
Adwords page.
Taking the keyword phrase"work from home"
as an example.
Your ad will appear every time someone types one
of these phrases into Google Search.
work from home
work from home uk
work from home jobs
data entry work from home
work from home opportunities
computer work from home
work from home businesses
work from home canada
Now unless you're promoting "data entry work"
or targeting Canadians you'd definitely want to negative-match those
2 key phrases
You can find out which phrases come up for your
chosen keywords by using the free Adwords
Sandbox tool.
Using Google Adwords can be very expensive, so
I recommend
studying the special report available
here before you begin any
major campaign.
You don't need it to read this report though if
you just want to test the waters with Adwords. Only buy it if you
get serious about using Adwords to drive traffic to your site, or
if you've been using Adwords and not had much luck so far.

3. Talking about Google you
SHOULD read this new book....
The
New Search Engine Secrets Exposed, by John Lim.
I got hold of a copy a couple of days ago after
Neil Shearing highly recommended it in his newsletter.
In fact Neil thought so highly of it, that he
put out one of those rare "special editions" that serious
ezine publishers tend to shy away from.
But it's easy to see why Neil was so impressed.
You get 50 tightly packed pages with very few
illustrations, just condensed solid help. The
New Search Engine Secrets Exposed concentrates on helping you
rank high in Google because of it's 55.1% market share, but a lot
of the stuff applies to other search engines too.
And it's all step-by-step stuff from someone who
is doing it and ranking at the top for his own sites.
This book has come at an ideal time for me and
my quest to improve the rankings of ozemedia.com (see the section
below), so I've printed the book out on my overworked lazer - I
print all my ebooks - and I read it at one sitting.
I'm now dipping into it again and marking the
most important
info and ideas.
It's good, and will help you no end.
________________
I'll tell you what...here's a deal...
If you buy the book from this link (in the next
3 days only - expires 13th Nov 02 - I'll throw in the same offer
as the one
I made for the Neil Shearing audio, a free copy of Ezine Experiment.
Even more....if you get both - that's the Neil
tapes and John's book I'll add in a worthwhile bonus tool that sells
for $37. Just
let me know you bought both.
Here's
the link to John's book.

4. How I'm revamping my ozemedia.com
site for better search engine positioning...
Your search engine ranking will drop if your site develops broken
links...and I should know because my main content site at
http://www.ozemedia.com is full of them.
In the past this site has held more advice and
help pages than many paid member sites. It still does hold this
content but it's almost impossible to find it because of the dead
links.
Several times in the past 2 years I've started
work on revamping the site and then been diverted into other projects.
So the site, which, ranked in top position on Alta Vista for the
words internet marketing, and top 10 positions in most search engines,
has slipped to nowhere. It's a total mess.
I'm now totally redoing the site, to make it a
valuable resource once again, and as time goes by I'm going to show
you what I do to make it rise in search engine rankings.
It's a more professional look than the old site,
which you can see by looking at last
weeks online newsletter though I'm not too sure about the close
up, non smiling photo which makes me look about as old as I feel
after a hard night.
Ok...my aim with the new look site is to put across
a more professional image, plus rise high in the search engines
once again.
I'm doing the search engine stuff myself, and
while I don't claim to be an expert in search engine positioning,
I do read a lot of practical how-to-do-it info on the subject which
I'm certain is going to help me a lot.
Example of something that's going to help me:
The New Search Engine
Secrets Exposed, by John Lim
that I wrote about earlier.

Tips for Top Ranking in FAST/All The Web
They suggest that webmasters focus on the basics,
with emphasis leading-paragraph content.
"Clean design, good title text, clear descriptions,
and good linkage from appropriate reference points within the site
will help improve your rankings," said Dr Rob Rubin from FAST.
"Always focus on improving your site content."
"The FAST robot starts off by checking Open
Directory Project
(ODP) descriptions. If none are found, it will look at Meta descriptions.
Again, if none are found, it will examine the
first 250 characters of content. Linguistic analysis of keyword
frequency may reveal suspicious patterns, such as too many adjectives
or the overuse of keywords. Such documents are flagged as spam."

I'm also changing the keyword focus of my site from internet
marketing to work from home.
Why?
Because far more people are searching for work
at home information that internet marketing.
Here are some figures I pulled up with Word
Tracker
internet marketing was searched for 1334 times,
and is
referenced on 4,290,000 web pages.
home business was searched for 2922 times, and
is
referenced on 7,290,000 web pages.
work at home was searched for 9412 times, and
is
referenced on 7,330,000 web pages.
work from home was searched for 8588 times, and
is
referenced on 7,330,000 web pages.
home based business was searched for 1952 times,
and is
referenced on 5,360,000 web pages.
mak* m*ney was searched for 1631 times, and is
referenced on 6,320,000 web pages.
affiliate programs was searched for 1196 times,
and is
referenced on 1,610,000 web pages.
So you can see that work at home and work from
home is a much more popular search term...and it still broadly fits
my target readers.
Work from home on the internet would be tighter
focused, but I'm going for the higher figure term. Competition is
steeper, or course, but I'll get there.
Like I said, the figures above are just from a
quick search with Wordtracker
But to fully research a key phrase, and the whole
potential of a site, you should look at using Site
Build It! which helps automate nearly all the leg work with
building a site that will rank high in the search engines.
I've got 2 Site Build It! sites myself, which
I'm using to develop digital photography sites. It's an excellent
total solution to site development, including web hosting. All you
need to do, when you use SBI, is add content and use SBI to tweak
it.

5.Webmaster Dos and Don'ts
direct from Google....
Do:
Create a site with content and design that are
straightforward,
appropriate and relevant for visitors to your site.
Feel free to exchange links with other sites that
are compatible with your site's content and users' interests.
Be very careful about allowing an individual consultant
or company to 'optimize' your web site. Chances are they will engage
in some of our "Don'ts" and end up hurting your site.
Consider submitting your sites to our partner
directories Yahoo!
and DMOZ.
Don't:
Cloak.
Write text or create links that can be seen by
search engines but not by visitors to your site.
Participate in link exchanges for the sole purpose
of increasing your ranking in search engines.
Send automated queries to Google in an attempt
to monitor your site's ranking.
Use programs that generate lots of generic doorway
pages.
