Letter from Phil...

I've been buying and reading Jay Conrad Levinson's business books for years now. His book Guerrilla Marketing, is published in 37 languages, and is required reading in MBA programs worldwide. (Not that I've got an MBA, or any other qualifications...I'm just old and experienced, work my tail off, and read a lot of books like Jay's and the book I wrote about last week "The Lazy Man's Guide to Online Business"

Anyhow I finally got to meet Jay at Mark Joyner's late-night party in Vegas last October...a long, long way from my Aussie home, but well worth the trip. Jay was like a cross between everyone's favorite grandfather and the Dalai Lama dispensing wisdom and business savvy with every breath. And at LA Airport, on the way back home, I bought the few books of his I didn't already own.

Well now Jay has just released a new book which is really timely, and something that we all feel the need for right now.

It's called Guerrilla Marketing During Tough Times If your business has been slowing down at all recently, in these tougher economic times - and many have - Jay will show you exactly what to do to turn it back around.

Each of the 12 chapters in Guerrilla Marketing During Tough Times includes action steps that you can use, and an exercise to help you focus your energy on the areas of your business you must change. It's real-life advice from a real marketing expert and something you must read.

Don't worry that this new book is just for people with big businesses. It's not. Like the rest of Jay's book's it's packed with timely practical advice you can turn to your benefit right now. Read more and order it here.

If you subscribe to a number of ezines you've probably received quite a few emails today promoting a new program called Website Lifeline. Nearly everyone is mailing out the same letter in text or html that starts off

When Your Website is Down, Would You Rather Be
Darryl or Tyra
?

It happens to all of us.  Websites go down.  Hey, it's an acceptable part of doing business on the net.  Even the biggest sites in the world have problems...  The thing is, when your site goes down it's like having your oxygen cut off.  You can't take orders.  Your customers can't contact you.  You pretty much can't breathe.

You may not be able to prevent your site from going down, but there is something you can do

Lots of ezines mailing out the same thing at once tends to put me off mentioning it, however good it might be.

But in this case I'm not put off, because Website Lifeline is something all serious webmasters, and affiliate program promoters, should be using.

So what is it?

Well... it's a web site monitoring system that lets you know immediately if your site is down.

Now that's not very exciting is it, and it can't really be hyped up as the latest, greatest thing (which some people are trying to do).

But I've got to tell you that I'm a big fan of this kind of service. I've been using one for years, so rather than letting all the emails put me off, I investigated further and really liked what I saw.

You've probably realized that the people who make most money from promoting affiliate programs, from their own sites or via direct affiliate links, are the people who spend most on advertising and promotion. Everyone who advertises needs Website Lifeline . It's like Coke. More people drink Coke than anything else. Guess who spends more on advertising than anyone else?...correct.

I spend up big time on advertising, and most of the time it pays off. But sometimes I place an expensive ad and makes no sales. Then I find out that the site that I was promoting was down.

It happened just the other week when I ran ads in some ezines (and also reviewed it here) promoting an excellent book called The Dropship Source Directory. I made no sales and I later found out that the site was down when all the ads appeared.

If I'd been using Website Lifeline I could have pulled the ads and held off publishing the review. Not using Website Lifeline ended up costing me several hundred dollars.

As soon as I heard about it yesterday I got onto Mark Joyner (yes, it's from Mark of Roibot fame, so you know it's a high quality product) and had a chat about it.

I wanted to know if it was good for us little guys who mainly promote affiliate programs, and maybe a few mini sites.

Turns out it's great for people like us.

Mark told me that it's fully customizable, and that you can set it up to check as many affiliate links as you like. (this alone immediately sold me on the product)

" It's totally customizable," he said. "It checks as many pages as you want as often as you want (up to 5 domains per license) It fully spiders your sites, and checks the status of each, and immediately notifies you if something is wrong."

"It also checks affiliate links outside of your domain (as many as you like - this isn't included in the 5 domain limit)

Ok, he's got me sold. I'm using it from now on to totally monitor my online business and make sure that everything is running the way it should be. This is going to save me lots of money and frustration over the years.

How about you?

I suggest you try it out for a month by taking the $1 trial

(Mark's not said so, but I'm guessing that he would have liked to let you try it for free...but the $1 helps to cut out all the time wasters who aren't serious about things and download all the "freebies" they can get their hands on. Don't be one of the "freebie" grabbers who never get serious about their online business)
