One reason why you need to keep growing your ezine list...
Letter from Phil
a
hot day here today for October. It's 37 degrees ( 98.6 f ) in town
today, and very humid. (remember because I'm in Australia in the
Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are all upside down, so summer
is only just approaching).
Mind
you it's a few degrees cooler up on the mountain, and there's a
lovely cool breeze drifting in through my office window. Got to
confess that late in the afternoon I drifted off in the hammock
when I should have been working...I told myself I was doing some
research, lying down with a printout of Paul Myers Amazing List
Machine book in my hands. No disrespect to Paul's book, which is
one of the most valuable ebooks I've ever come across, but I feel
asleep in minutes.
I'd probably
have been there all night but a possum came down from one of the
trees and we gave each other a bit of a fright.
Phil
PS. If you've
never read my review of Paul's book, which I guarantee won't make
you fall asleep, here's
a link to it. It's invaluable for showing you how to grow your
mailing list or ezine by developing targeted traffic and converting
that traffic to subscribers. There are dozens of methods that have
increased my subscriber list by 1000's since I first read it a few
months ago.
PPS.
In case you've never seen one, here's what a possum looks like.
Friendly, but sharp claws.
1. Reprint Rights for $1 if you're quick...
I'm a big fan of buying reprint rights, especially master rights
where you can brand the ebooks with your affiliate links and
get full professional sales materials for the product.
I've made thousands
of $ by buying rights, and setting up mini sites up to sell the
products.
One problem
though is that everyone seems to be trying to
sell the same books, and once a squillian people are selling
the same product sales plummet.
Now Louis Allport
has come up with a solution, and it's a cracker.
He's set up
a Reprint Rights
site which he's limiting to just 150 members. These members
will get a new quality product every month, which they can immediately
brand with their own affiliate links and resell.
I've become
a member, and I don't know how many slots there are left, so if
you're interested you'd better jump in today.
The products
look top quality. I can't wait for the November one, which is 4
hours of Q & A with one of my favorite marketers focused exclusively
on how to make a full time income online with affiliate programs.
Anyway, get
in quick. Louis
is offering a 10 day trial for just $1 so you can't lose.
2. Traffic and one way to get thousands
of visitors...
Many people
say that the biggest thing holding them back online is a lack of
targeted traffic. And whenever I've run a poll, getting more traffic
has been high on peoples wish list.
Just this week
a reader from Ireland wrote: "Maybe your question should be
"What is the biggest barrier to an affiliates success...? Is
it money, time, content, computer skills, marketing skills etc?
A small poll might give you a good idea of the answer. In my case
I feel it's targeted traffic combined with the right conversion
rate. "
It's typical
of many emails I get. People build sites and just can't get worthwhile,
interested visitors to them.
Well by
coincidence I came across a special
report earlier this week that promises to show you one way to
get that targeted traffic.
It's written
by Wayne Yeager, editor of the the excellent Trafficology newsletter,
who is in a fairly unique position to see all the best new traffic
ideas that are floating around out there.
Wayne says that
once he saw this idea, and tried it himself, he knew that this one
was different. The real thing. So he wrote a special report about
it.
I was a bit
disappointed with it. Thinking "is that it? You mean I've paid
money to learn that. It's so simple."
Unfortunately
I can't tell you the idea because people buying the book have to
agree to a non-disclosure agreement, but I can see it's potential.
Yes, it will work if you take action on what you learn.
Before
you race out and buy it though, thinking it could be the answer
to all your traffic worries, it won't be. It's not going to be an
"instant" cure, but then nothing is.
It will take
some work and time to put into place. And it is only ONE idea. I'm
going to give it a try, because I can't see how it can fail. But
if you decide to buy it for yourself, don't say I haven't warned
you that you're paying to read about just one simple idea.
So if you're
reluctant to spend money on a report that only details one thing,
or if you're looking for instant traffic, don't buy it.
about it here.
3. An apology....
Last week I
went a bit over the top when I said I was saddened by the number
of people applying for part time clerical work with me.
I've had lots
of emails saying I was "putting people down", calling
people failures.
I didn't mean
that at all, but that's the message I seem to have put across, so
I want to apologize for my outburst.
Sometimes when
I write, and last week was one of those times, I just pound it out
on the keyboard without stopping to think. Probably comes from my
tabloid newspaper background where you have to write things to get
immediate attention...shock value stuff.
But really I
failed to get the message across that I wanted to, which is that
I feel that I (and other fairly well known marketers) have let people
down by not helping them make enough money.
Last week I
said, in the middle of that rant and rave "I'm just sorry that
I, and other people who have been around a long time are failing
to help you make a decent online income" but really I should
have expanded on that, and explained myself better.
Sorry, I didn't
mean to put down anyone but myself, I guess it just didn't come
across that way.
4. And while we're
talking about last weeks letter...
I
wrote about Mike Chen's very useful Clicklocker
tool which is a must for anyone publishing their own ebooks.
Clicklocker
is simple to use online software that lets you disable pirated,
or refunded, copies of your product.
I ran a short
interview with Mike, where he explained that it only worked with
products sold through Clickbank, and only on .exe files.
But, in the
time it took me to publish the interview ( a couple of weeks) Mike
redeveloped the product to work with other credit card processors,
AND with .pdf based ebooks.
So it's now
a great solution for just about anyone producing ebooks or software
for sale.
Last week I
also mentioned Mike's Web
Lock Pro, and the amazing bonus of a free domain name and lifetime
webhosting.
Some people
wrote saying it must be a con. My view was that Mike was offering
such an incredible bonus by taking the long term view of using it
to build a big mailing list to make long term profits. The way I
look at it is expensive web hosting is hard to sell these days.
He could have sold the Web
Lock Pro script for say $25 without the bonus, but he's priced
it higher at $69.
Yep, a bit of
a crazy bonus, but then again it will only take a few minutes of
his time to set up the domain space on his servers, so he's getting
an immediate profit for a few minutes work plus the name of a person
who is an active buyer, for his long term benefit.
Bandwidth usage
doesn't really come into it because the vast majority of people
will never get around to building much of a site.
I put this to
Mike and he confirmed my guess.
"Hi Phil,
As for how the
hosting offer can be true? Basically customer building...that's
all. But this "complaint" has come up before, and I don't
get it either. Maybe we should say 50% off. People can understand
that. Since when did people refuse something FREE? Mike."
5.
New business only PPC search engine...
There's a brand
new pay per click search engine aimed solely
at small business entrepreneurs.
http://www.Search-Home-Business.com
It doesn't cost
anything to sign up, so you've got nothing to lose. When you register
for free, your new account will be credited with $25 of free clicks.
Search-Home-Business
is the brainchild of respected Australian marketer Paul Barrs, and
he tells me he's soon going to be promoting it heavily.
6. How to promote
the freesoftware forever site...
The other day someone asked me if I had any ideas for promoting
the Free Software Forever
site.
Well I reckon
it's such a good deal that all you've got to do is get eyeballs
to the site. But I couldn't really just say that, so I took a good
look through the site and found a page with one good idea on it.
Here it is:
"Case study: one reseller has set up a "package"
page with 1 software product and some ebooks, packaged together,
priced high on purpose. Nestled in at end of the page is a "official"
looking link to free-software-forever
(These Products Licensed from Free
Software Forever...). The plan - curious buyers follow the link,
and suddenly find a "better" package, and feel like they
put one over on the "reseller". He ALSO will be promoting
his sales page directly via ads. Double whammy."
So you could
follow this idea, or adapt it. Eg, find several software items on
the same theme (from the huge package) build a mini site around
"reviews" of them...take pop up generators for example...there
are 2 or 3 in the package.
So build a small
review site on making pop ups, pop up software reviews etc. Find
an expensive one not in the package and write about that two, with
an affiliate link to it...then tell people they can get 2 or 3 of
the pop up generators, along with 50, or whatever is is, other programs
for just $39 at your free software link.
Does this make
sense? It does to me.
Here's
the free software site we're talking about
7. Here's an affiliate
program you might like to promote...
especially if
you're interested in books and writing of any sort. It's 2 tier,
paying $89.10 for each personal sale. Webmaster Steve Manning says
that some affiliates are making $2000 a month from the program.

8. Mark Joyner's Bombshell's...
I could have made a pile of money in the past month or so by promoting
Jay Conrad Levinson and Mark Joyner's Guerrilla
Marketing Bombshell's network marketing venture.
One of Mark's
assistants phoned me before all the hype started and discussed it
with me. After the phone call an affiliate link arrived by email.
But I choose
not to mention it here, or promote it anywhere else, until I saw
the finished product. When
all the hype started, and continued right up to this week, saying
that if you didn't lock your position into the matrix you'd miss
out on making big ongoing profits, I was glad I didn't join in.
I like Mark
as a person, and have a lot of respect for him. I also had the pleasure
of meeting Jay at a party in Vegas last year. Both
Jay and Mark are lovely people, and both more intelligent, richer,
and better businessmen than I'll ever be, but I just wasn't comfortable
with promoting it.
Well, at last, the
product has been released and it's good, but expensive. Basically
it's a monthly online newsletter with a lot of content, including
video's and chat sessions with Jay.
Anyway, if you
haven't been seduced, or been turned off, by all the emails you've
received, you can now have a month inside the site for $3.95 by
following this link.
Is it worth
the money? To some people it will be. It's certainly top quality
content.
9. One reason why
you need to keep growing your ezine list...
Email address
turnover is so high, that if you don't keep attracting new subscribers
your mailing list size will shrink.
The other day
List News www.listnews.com ran an interesting piece about a survey
conducted by an email change of service company.
It said that
about 31% of all email addresses change every year as users switch
ISPs, change jobs or try to avoid spam.
Because of that
churn, the study concluded, most consumers lose touch with personal
and professional contacts and with preferred Web sites and email
newsletters.
The report said
"there is a real and significant subsequent financial impact
on reputable businesses that rely on e-mail to communicate with
their customers."
The study revealed:
- people have
an average of 3.1 email addresses, up from 2.6 in the last survey.
- half of the
people who said they had changed personal email addresses did it
to move to a new ISP. Another 16 percent said they did it to avoid
spam, 12 percent moved to a new home and 8 percent wanted a more
attractive email address.
- 41 percent
of work email addresses changed because of new jobs. Other reasons
include changing ISPs, moving or name changes resulting from marriage
or divorce.
- more than
half said they lost personal and business contacts because of address
changes, including valued email newsletters.
- 22 percent
of those who changed email addresses did not notify any Web site.
Of course, seeing
Return Path runs a change-of-address service, the survey might not
be 100% reliable (questions can always be skewed to get the answers
required, though I'm not suggesting that was the case here) but
I do know, from personal experience that subscribers do drop off
my lists simply because they've changed address and forgotten to
resubscribe.
So how do you
keep attracting a constant flow of new subscribers?
Well you can
pay for them from reputable services like World Wide Lists, but
the very best way is to get people to come to you.
| My newsletter
has grown tremendously since I read Paul
Myers Amazing List Machine. All the techniques and tactics
he details take effort on your part, of course, but they really
do work. |
